As we welcome the new year and start tackling our resolutions, it’s always a good exercise to reflect on the past year. For Lifeway Groups Ministry, 2017 was an incredible year as we produced numerous life-changing Bible studies for small group ministries. We wanted to share some of our favorites with you.
Here are five of the best Bible studies from 2017:
Prayer is the most dynamic discipline in the life of a believer. Yet it may be the most misunderstood and the least taught. This six-session Bible study explores the text, theology, and application of the Lord’s Prayer. It includes video sessions with trusted Christian leaders such as J. D. Greear, Ronnie Floyd, Ken Hemphill, Kie Bowman, and Robby Gallaty. As you take a fresh look at the way Jesus taught His followers to pray, you’ll develop a more vibrant prayer life that leads to worship, spiritual maturity, great dependence on God, and a knowledge of His will. Most Christians would say they know Jesus, but do they really? Many have forgotten that Jesus was a Jewish man living in a Jewish land, observing Jewish customs, and investing His life in Jewish men and women. This Bible study takes believers on a journey back to biblical times to rediscover who Jesus really was by seeing Him in the cultural and religious context in which He ministered. Viewing Jesus as a first-century rabbi, you will discover new reasons to fall in love with Him all over again. (6 sessions)
Take your group through an in-depth examination of the primary tenets of Christianity. The Apostles’ Creed was born from the apostles’ teachings. It contains essential doctrines and beliefs that summarize the gospel and the foundation of our faith. The scriptural truths contained in the creed enable us to build our Christian lives on good theology, with the knowledge that our faith is rooted in truth and a rich history. This study of the Apostles’ Creed leads to greater clarity on Christianity, symmetry and balance as a disciple, and a more profound sense of belonging in the kingdom of God. (12 sessions)
The biblical account of Joseph clearly demonstrates that God is at work even when life seems to be going wrong. Even today, it’s easy to wonder why God would allow calamity to happen or if He’s in control at all. Whether through uncontrollable circumstances or the pain of personal relationships, everyone has experienced unforeseen changes in life. This study helps believers navigate detours that may take you through trials, injustice, and even betrayal. You will be comforted and encouraged when you learn to rest in God’s redemptive plan and the hope found in God’s sovereign will. (6 sessions)
Why do we lose our temper? Why do we hurt those we care for most? How do families find themselves broken? The reason is often the way we think. Beyond behaviors and deeper than attitudes, thinking determines outcome more than anything else. God offers our only hope for victory over disposition, dysfunction, double-mindedness, and every other mental stronghold. With Him we can think differently. (10 sessions)
