“When overly talkative group members consistently take control of the group meeting, frustrated group members silently mutiny.” — Rick Howerton
Overly talkative group members are the norm; they are not at all uncommon. My unresearched estimate would be that about 55 percent of groups have an overly talkative person. The leader of the group must deal with this issue because. If the leader doesn’t, one, a few or all of the following things will occur:
- group members will become frustrated and silently leave the group
- group members will remain silent about the issue and will also remain silent during the Bible study conversation
- group members will begin to build up resentment toward the overly talkative person
At some point there will be conflict between the overly talkative person and a group member as the group member can no longer hold in the frustration they’re feeling toward the overly talkative individual.
